The more than half a million copies of The Way to Happiness distributed in South Africa in 1987 were credited by many with defusing tensions and preventing violence at a particularly volatile time of year. This was so successful that in 1993, an IAS grant was provided for the distribution of a million more copies, including enough for all of South Africa’s police officers.
